A Little About Mission Christmas:
Mission Christmas began in 2017 after a coworker sought used toys for three children who had been placed with their grandparents following the incarceration of their parents. I stepped in to provide gifts for those children, and that simple act of kindness sparked the creation of our nonprofit.
Christmas has always been a special time for me—a season when people set aside their differences and come together to spread joy. Over the years, we have expanded our efforts, partnering with organizations like Battered Women’s Shelters, the Foster Care System, Section 8 Housing Communities, School Counselors, Military, and Local Law Enforcement to identify children in need. Many of these children ask for basic necessities like clothing, winter jackets, and shoes—items that many of us take for granted.
In 2021, we launched our Back To School Initiative, providing backpacks, school supplies, and teacher kits to schools in low-income districts. We quickly realized that many of these schools have students who are homeless or whose families are financially struggling. In some cases, these students rely on school lunch as their only meal of the day. To address this, we just recently built-out a Community Closet, Pantry & Library at Third Creek Elementary and Middle School. These will be stocked with clothing, shoes, basic necessities, and non-perishable foods, and will be accessible to students in need. The Community Library and an additional Pantry will be placed outside the schools, providing year-round access to books and educational materials for students and their families.
As Elvis Presley once sang, “For if every day could be just like Christmas, what a wonderful world it would be.” At Mission Christmas, we strive to spread that Christmas spirit throughout the year, helping as many children and families as we can by providing the essentials they need, regardless of their financial situation.
