Old Fort Help Officially Launches with Online Support Request Site…
Weeks after the storm, the need continues to be immense and so is the desire to help, but the challenge to date has been connecting the two in a safe and efficient way. Businesses and citizens of Old Fort have come together to find a grassroots way to solve this problem: Old Fort Help.
Old Fort Help’s mission is to connect neighbors helping neighbors and we have created an online system to make that happen! Anyone can make a request to ‘Get Help’ or ‘Give Help’ by going to the website oldforthelp.org and “Submit a Request” by clicking the link in the top right corner of the home page. For ‘Get Help’, you will be asked what kind of assistance you might be looking for from storm damage, supplies, to reopening your business and more. Volunteers wanting to donate time, money, services or supplies should also click ‘Submit a Request’ and choose ‘Give Help’.
Old Fort Help also strives to make sure that all important community information for Old Fort is collected into one place, and regularly updated so you know exactly what is happening in our beloved town! This includes everything from what businesses are open and best to use while rebuilding, to supply locations, grant opportunities, and important water and safety updates. If you have information updates or resources that you don't see on the site WE NEED YOU! Please email us at support@oldforthelp.org, with the subject line ‘Sharing Information’ or you can ‘Give Help’ and choose ‘Share information and helpful resources’.
Old Fort Help has already provided tree work at multiple neighbors' homes, driveway and road clearing and grading, volunteer coordination, deploying employees to staff supply sites, equipment sharing with aid sites, water & generator delivery, and wellness checks and supply delivery.
Oldforthelp.org is available now and will be as long as it is needed and helpers are available. As the site has just launched, expect a few kinks as volunteers navigate the system and available resources. Be patient with them, and know that each request is being seen and will be personally managed. Requests will be monitored and processed M-F 9am-5pm.
