Who and What is Old Fort Help?

Created by Amanda Bell, Modified on Sat, 23 Nov at 11:25 AM by Dana Owen

Old Fort Help was created in the weeks following Hurricane Helene with the intent of establishing an online system to help connect neighbors helping neighbors, as well as provide accurate, updated community information.  As Old Fort faces a long road to recovery, it’s obvious that we need more than the aid of neighbors, and have therefore expanded our mission to include working with volunteer organizations and local aid and government programs.  While our key focus is helping one another within our community, establishing these connections allows us to be better positioned to receive current and future emergency requests and funnel them to the appropriate agencies.

Anyone can make a request to ‘Get Help’ or ‘Give Help’ by going to the website oldforthelp.org and “Submit a Request” by clicking the link in the top right corner of the home page. For ‘Get Help’, you will be asked what kind of assistance you might be looking for from storm damage, supply needs, reopening your business, and more. Volunteers wanting to donate time, money, services or supplies should also click ‘Submit a Request’ and choose ‘Give Help’.

Old Fort Help strives to make sure that important community information for Old Fort is collected into one place and regularly updated.  This includes everything from supply locations and medical assistance to important cleanup and safety updates. If you have information or resources that you don't see on the site, we need you!  Please email us at support@oldforthelp.org, with the subject line ‘Sharing Information’ or you can ‘Give Help’ and choose ‘Share information and helpful resources’.

Old Fort Help has implemented tree work at many neighbors' homes, driveway and road clearing and grading, equipment sharing with aid sites, supply delivery, wellness checks, and networked with nearby organizations to help connect residents with housing, repair and aid options.

Oldforthelp.org is available now and will be as long as it is needed and helpers are available.

Expect a few kinks as our small team navigates resources and the new system.  Things are moving a bit slowly these days as aid groups, government organizations, contractors, and volunteers are all dealing with many challenges; please be patient and know that each request is being seen and will be personally managed to the best of our ability.  Requests will be monitored and processed M-F 9am-5pm.
