Old Fort Help
We are still getting off the ground, and are currently a small group of volunteers. Most of the members of this group currently are small business owners, and are also very busy getting their businesses back running. Our biggest effort right now is expanding our network of volunteers, in particular those who could help with resource and information gathering, updating, creating and maintaining informational articles for the site, and acquisition and organization of contacts from relief orgs, local government, supply centers, volunteers, etc. To get more information on volunteering for Old Fort Help, please click below.
Helene Cleanup Effort: Lake James - Linville Boat Ramp
Join Catawba Riverkeeper, Lake James Environmental Association, Community of Lake James, Foothills Conservancy of NC, Fonta Flora State Trail, Keep McDowell Beautiful, Lake James State Park, Lake James Area Wildlife and Nature Society (NC Wildlife Federation), Simply Green Recycling, WPCOG, and others in the Northern Basin as we begin what will be a long-term cleanup effort to restore our shared waterways from the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Due to extreme flooding from Helene, our lakes and waterways are littered with various types of debris, both natural and man-made, which can become navigational hazards and put a strain on water quality. On November 16th, we will be hosting multiple sites for a community-wide coordinated cleanup at Lake James. Choose how you want to participate: sign up to volunteer on land, on the shore, or by boat, depending on the cleanup site.
